  • Wood Floor Stain Colors Tips

The secret to a wood's beauty is its natural variation. Its knots, swirls and circles add character to each panel of wood. Since the dawn of time until this modern era, wood has always been uniquely sought after by a lot of people. Whether it is furniture, walls, or floors, wood has always brought elegance into our homes.

However, choosing the proper shade and color for your own hardwood floor could be very difficult to decide.

    Wood stain colors Tips

Here are some tips that could, hopefully, ease you decide what wood stain colors you can use for your floor.

Step 1. Try buying three pieces of wood flooring samples that is identical to the floor in your home. If your floors are older, three pieces of scrap pine flooring bought from some home improvement center will do. For new floors, get three samples where you can test the stains.

Step 2. Go to the paint store or home improvement center and talk to the manager of the paint department. Present to him printed images of the furniture and appliances you have in the room you plan on staining. Explore the wood stain color sample tags and select three which you believe will go well with your furniture and appliances.

Step 3. Buy 8 oz. or the smallest possible cans of the top three wood stain colors you have chosen.

Step 4. Stain the three boards, each with a different color. Use a rag by dipping it into the can of wood stain color then wiping the board with it until you have covered the board's surface. Leave it for twelve hours to dry.

Step 5. Lay the boards on your home's floor. Make sure you lay them separately. Then, examine which wood stain color you like most. Go to your appliances and furniture and hold your boards next to them, this would help you decide which of the three wood color stains would be best for the room.

    Other Tips

If you're still unsure and you have time, you might want to walk through some of the model homes in your location, or browsing for samples in magazines or over the net. Be careful of choosing color from photographs and images since things like the wood, the tile, the furnishings, the granite and the natural lighting plays a large part on how one wood stain color will look when it is applied in your home.
